Bryant-Pattengill

    Most of southern Ann Arbor is served by the paired elementary schools of Bryant and Pattengill. All children in this area go to Bryant from kindergarten through grade 2 and move to Pattengill for grades 3-5. Everyone goes on to Tappan and Pioneer.

    The neighborhoods off Packard include streets of modest and some larger homes, and apartment and condo complexes. The area surrounding Pattengill, once prime farmland, was built up after World War II. Kimberly Hills, south of Independence, has some newer and bigger homes. This area also has the upscale Ponds of Georgetown apartment and several condo complexes.

    Southwest of Packard, moderately priced houses built in the 1940’s and 1950’s are mixed with apartments. The large Woodbury Gardens complex features a clubhouse and one-to-three-bedroom apartments and townhouses.

    Along South Industrial are numerous small commercial and industrial businesses. Single-family ranges and small Cape Cods along tree-lined streets bordering the strip are home to many older families and retirees.

    The subdivisions near and south of Eisenhower are slightly more affluent. Tri-levels, ranches, colonials, and Cape Cods sit along winding streets. Georgetown, west of Stone School Rd., has a semi-private golf course, a private pool, and tennis courts.

    Large rental complexes border the western edge of Mary Beth Doyle Park. The area is also home to the city’s only manufactured-housing complex, tiny Sunnyside Park, on Packard.

    The Bryant neighborhood, just off Ellsworth and Stone School, is built on open and slightly rolling terrain. The small single-family homes along Champagne off Stone School are some of the least expensive in the city. The Forest Hills Cooperative Townhouses, north of Ellsworth, are even more affordable. This diverse neighborhood also is home to several apartment, townhouse, and condominium complexes, ranging from low-income to luxury.

    Briarwood Mall, at State and I-94, is surrounded by a dense mix of offices, retail, and multifamily housing, with several complexes geared toward seniors. South of the interchange of Ann Arbor-Saline and I-94, in Pittsfield Township, single-family housing predominates in a maze of twisting streets behind the Oak Valley and Waters Place shopping centers. Subs here include Briar Hill, Lake Forest, Lake Forest Highlands, and Pines at Lake Forest; closer to the shopping centers are the Fox Glen, Fox Pointe, Meadow Grove, Oak Meadows, and Weatherstone condominiums. The Valley Ranch apartment and condominiums are further east.

    South of Ellsworth are the winding roads of the huge Stonebridge golf course and housing development, with stately executive homes, and detached condominiums in a large area that’s divided between the Ann Arbor and Saline school districts. Source
